The Beginning
Roya Javaheri, a bridal designer based in North Sydney, has a story that began long before the studio — on a summer afternoon in a small town in Iran
Roya was eight years old, running through her grandmother’s house with her siblings and cousins, when she wandered into a small, particular room — the place where Aziz, her grandmother, received her clients.
She stopped.
Aziz had taken a rectangle of fabric, cut a circle the size of her client’s head, and placed it over her shoulders. Then, with a threaded needle and unhurried hands, she began to give it shape — draping, pinching, folding. Darts formed. An armhole emerged. A neckline took shape. She spoke quietly to her client: how do you like this? what do you feel? And within minutes, a flat piece of fabric had become a beautiful dress, fitted to the body of the woman standing before her.
Roya didn’t go back to playing that day.
She watched until it was finished. And then she went home and did the same thing for her doll.
The Journey
That moment never left her.
Through her school years in Iran, Roya taught herself to sew — making clothes for herself and her sister whenever she had the chance, borrowing pattern-making notes from friends, absorbing everything she could. After finishing school she began formally — short courses, then fashion design studies in Iran, building more than 15 years of experience as a dressmaker and designer before ever setting foot in Australia.
When she arrived in Sydney, she studied Fashion Design & Technology for two years — not because she needed to learn how to make a dress, but because she believed that great craft never stops learning.
The Studio
Roya Javaheri Bridal opened in North Sydney as the natural culmination of everything that came before — Aziz’s fitting room, the borrowed notes, the years of making, the love of the process.
Every gown that leaves this studio carries that same feeling Roya first experienced as a little girl watching her grandmother work — the quiet wonder of a flat piece of fabric becoming something beautiful, something fitted to a specific woman, something entirely hers.
